A few weeks to go... Hazelhurst Arts Centre 20th Anniversary Exhibition

Have you visited the Hazelhurst Gallery recently?

There is still time to see our display in their 20th Anniversary Exhibition which runs to 31 January 2021.

The usual Covid rules apply however don't let that deter you from seeing this historic exhibition.

Works include past and present members works plus some special pieces from our own collection dating back to our inception in the 1960s.

The gallery is open 10am to 4pm daily.  Entrance off the Kingsway Gymea.

Members are reminded our December meeting will be held on Wednesday 2 December at 7pm.. our focus will be on Raku firings.

Page16  features Hiroe Swen whose work current work is on show at the Sturt Gallery Mittagong until 15 November.  

In 1986 members of Port Hacking Potters arranged to visited her at the Pastoral Gallery outside Canberra.  Just prior to the visit a fire burned down the gallery.  To save disappointment Hiroe, in an act of amazing generosity, went ahead with a demonstration of her much admired techniques.

Our History Book is now available

We are very pleased to announce that we have published a beautiful book on the history of our Group.  

The Pictorial History of Port Hacking Potters Group is a 96 page book, with over 200 photographs, that records the vitality and growth of the Group from its foundation in 1962 to the present day.

PHPG was established at a key point in time in the development of Australian pottery and its history reflects the experimentation and technological change in the world of ceramics over six decades. The extensive archival material of photographs, newsletters, newspaper articles, and catalogues traces the Group’s contribution to these developments through activities such as workshops,  conferences and the influence of the PHPG National Exhibition and Competition which has been felt widely since 1962.

The book reflects local history such as its contribution to the establishment of Hazelhurst Arts Centre but also marks the strong links PHPG has established with the wider pottery community, both nationally and internationally.

In the Foreword two renowned potters, Merran Esson and Susie McMeekin, give their thoughts on the influence of Port Hacking Potters Group on the ceramics scene over six decades of competitions and exhibitions and through the energy brought by its enthusiastic members striving for professionalism and excellence in this field.

National Pottery Competition Postponed to 2021

You may have seen this notice in the current issue of the Journal of Australian Ceramics (page 156)

We are very grateful to the Hazelhurst Arts Centre management and our various sponsors for their understanding that with the detail that goes into organizing the competition, an early decision had to be made around the Covid-19 restrictions and the uncertainty of what conditions might apply.

We look forward to being able to hold this event in mid 2021. A definite date will be announced when possible.
