October Meeting Wednesday 1/10/2014

Dear Members and Friends

Join us this Wednesday evening, 7.30pm at the Cronulla School of Arts upstairs meeting room, Surf Road Cronulla.

Our guest this month will be ceramic artist, Cheryl Jones.  Cheryl teaches at TAFE and in her own practise is known for her dramatic Egyptian influenced boats and use of Egyptian Paste.

We will then have a supper break, a chance to borrow from our extensive library and then a short business meeting.

Hope you can be there.

48th National Pottery Competition and Exhibition worth a visit

We are delighted to have over a hundred entries in this year's competition.

While we do not have any entries this year from overseas we have had in the past.

Potter Donna Davis from America

In 2010 American potter, Donna Davis hand delivered her entry while visiting and enjoyed the experience of having her work on display in Australia.

In 2012 entries arrived from all across Australia including this beautiful delicate work from Western Australia by John Blinco which won the Decorative Techniques section.

Do join us for the Official Opening and Presentation of Awards with our Judge Patsy Hely on 

Saturday 20 September at 2pm in the Community Gallery of Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and 

Arts Centre 782 The Kingsway, Gymea NSW.

The exhibition will continue daily 10am to 5pm until the 1 October 2014.

September Meeting

Tomorrow night, Wednesday 3rd is our September meeting. Usual time, 7.30pm and usual place, upstairs meeting room at Cronulla School of Arts, Surf Road Cronulla.

You can bring your entry application and payment for our competition and join in with a hand building project.

A plate to share for supper would be nice too.

Members take part in the Sydney Teapot Show

Several of our members have teapots in the Sydney Teapot Show which runs until the 31st August at the Inner City Clayworkers Gallery in Glebe - click here for directions.

Australian Ceramics Open Studio - come and Unearth your local potter

We will be at the Hazelhurst Pottery Studio all day on Sunday 17th August 2014 from 10am to 4pm.

Come along and meet potters, see the studio and check out the gallery next door which will house our 48th National Pottery Competition and Exhibition.

A big thank you to all who came along today - the children had a wonderful time making animals and mermaids - we have some budding artists there.  The adults had fun too.

August Meeting

Our General Meeting is this Wednesday, 6th August at 7.30pm in the upstairs meeting room of the Cronulla School of Arts in Surf Road Cronulla - just off the main street at the railway station end.

July Meeting will welcome Cath Fogarty as our guest

Members and friends are invited to our July meeting, 

Wednesday 2 July at 7.30pm in the upstairs meeting room of the Cronulla School of Arts in Surf Road Cronulla.  Enter via the Cronulla theatre foyer and take the lift.

Our guest presenter for the evening will be Cath Fogarty, Ceramic Artist, Teacher and Gallery Owner.

After the presentation members are invited to join us in a supper so bring a plate to share before our General Meeting.

Mother's Day Stall

our next stall will be on Saturday 3rd May in Cronulla Mall

a chance to buy a Mother's Day gift or take part in our Mother's Day raffle which will be on show and drawn on the day. Proceeds will go to the Sylvanvale Foundation - our local charity.

Our part in the Sutherland Shire Citizens' Heritage Festival

Join us in the grounds of the Woronora Cemetery  
enter off Linden Street  Sutherland
and proceed to the chapel on the Linden St side of the building 

on Saturday 29th March 2014 

from 10 am to 3pm 

for demonstrations on the pottery wheel 
and finished pots for sale.

This year the theme is "Journeys" and our journey is from a lump of clay to a beautiful pot.

We will also be on hand with information about the Group alongside the  Botany Bay Family History Society 

in the Eloura Room at Tradies Club on the Kingsway Gymea 

from 10am to 4pm.

Entry is free so look for the Heritage bus 

which will drop you off at the Club or the cemetery as well as other venues taking part in the Festival.

This event is being held with the assistance of the National Trust of Australia and Sutherland Shire Council.
